Total Solar Eclipse Lunch

April 8, 2024 marked the day of the total solar eclipse and in the Cleveland area, we were in the path across the country for excellent viewing of the event. April 8 is also my brother-in-law's birthday so we hosted a total solar eclipse birthday lunch with some family and friends.
We went with a sunshine theme and set two tables in yellow and white. The centerpieces were yellow and white polka dot pitchers filled with yellow roses. A table runner and yellow placemats and striped yellow napkins made for a festive table for our guests.

We made a large deli tray with a selection of breads, chips, pickles and chicken salad. We had a great variety of desserts in honor of Connor's birthday. In addition to his favorite cake, we had themed sugar cookies as favors! Connor's parents even brought Moon Pies and Total Eclipse beer from a local brewery.

We hung the You Are My Sunshine banner on two purse holders. It makes for a simple and fast way to hang a sign. We added yellow bows to the tops of the purse holders.

Elizabeth was at school, but made a fantastic playlist of songs that were about the sun, moon and of course Total Eclipse of the Heart by Bonnie Tyler. To complete the theme, Claire, my Mom and I all wore yellow tops we found at Talbots.
My Dad set up chairs along our dock for viewing the eclipse. The afternoon was  fun celebrating Connor and so magnificent to watch the solar eclipse through the glasses.
